Re: Driver Fined for Middle Lane Hogging
National Express coaches, and others, are now allowed to travel at up to 70 mph on motorways and Tesco lorries now average 55mph in order to save fuel.

Neither of these two things make driving on motorways any easier.

Joe. Are hgv drivers deliberately taught to wait for an incline before attempting to overtake another hgv at 0.001mph faster speed.

Re: Driver Fined for Middle Lane Hogging

You are someone else that can't drive

When you join a motorway it is up to you to judge your speed and/or breaking to safely join the road

It is not the other drivers responsibly to move over

The amount of times I'm driving a lorry and someone edges in front of me causing me to adjust my speed and then floor it is amazing

The slip rd is where you should start to accelerate

Hgv drivers are taught never to move lanes when they have lessons

In any case moving into the middle lane when the inside lane is empty is illegal - hence the fine

If any of you fantastic drivers took a bike or a Hgv test your eyes would be well and truly opened

White Pony..
Are you having a laugh, even being remotely serious?

Do you only drive on a motorway in the early hours?

The inside lane is full of lorries, buses, slow moving cars continuously.
YOU can weave in and out all day long.
I prefer to drive at a steady 70mph, safely and comfortably in the middle lane.
To move left, then right, then left, then right, is not only tiresome but also dangerous.

Use the inside lane to overtake..simples.

Re: Driver Fined for Middle Lane Hogging
Second - should you encounter a slow-moving vehicle in the left-hand lane, simply use the overtaking lane to your right. Once your manoeuver is complete, you can return to the left-hand lane until such a time that you need to overtake again.

It is hardly "weaving in and out of " traffic. It's called driving properly. If you drive this way, you will find that yes, although there are stretches where there will be quite a few slower vehicles grouped together, where sitting in the middle lane for a while is perfectly normal, you will find that you'll spend a surprising amount of time in the left-hand lane. Especially if you're driving at a steady 70mph.

My guess is you;re on a wind-up as nobody possesses such a lack of common sense, surely.

Re: Driver Fined for Middle Lane Hogging

Of course what the numpties on this thread don't realize is that the left hand is generally full of cars driving at under the max speed limit, whereas I am driving at exactly the max speed limit.

I concur - i find lorries/slow drivers/people waiting to turn off all in the left hand lane...id get no where fast if I sat there the whole time and only dipped in and out of the other lanes for over taking.

What's worse is when some idiot is creeping along the left hand lane just as you're coming on to the motorway and doesn't move out to let you in.

Part 264 of the Highway Code says: "You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past."

It's even more simple than that.
Staying in the overtaking lane whilst not overtaking is actually illegal you fucking tool

I use satnav to tell me when to get off Motorway, and from a 1/4 of a mile I look to cut in front of traffic that's been 2+ miles long without interfering with anyone.

Apologies if I sound like a cunt.

SecondOpinion 12:31 Wed Jun 24
Re: Driver Fined for Middle Lane Hogging
Its all very very simple really, even for the morons on here.
If you want to drive at the current speed limit of 70 mph, then stay safely in the middle lane which avoids weaving over to the inside lane every ten seconds.
Leave the outside lane to the speed freaks and law breakers who drive over 70 mph.
Its so obvious. Perhaps a little too simple for some to comprehend.

Re: Driver Fined for Middle Lane Hogging
Middle and outside lane hoggers are the scourge of British motorways. The trouble is that the ignorant cunts don't just do it on the 3 lane sections but on the 4 and 5 lanes of the M25.
And it is all sorts who do it, it's not confined to a certain section of soicety.

The trouble is, as demonstrated by a few morons on here, they're often doing it on purpose and think they can do what the fuck they like as long as they're not breaking the speed limit.

What I don't understand is why the UK has so many shit drivers who don't understand how M-way lanes are meant to be used. French drivers may have their faults, but their M-way lane discipline puts the UK to shame.

marty,

You've got a real Sheriff of The Road syndrome going on mate. You're just going to have to accept that not everyone is as perfect as you. If someone is indicating to pull into your lane in front of you, I think probably the best thing to do is just slow down a touch and let them in?

If they cut in sharply without indicating, by all means unleash that self-righteous rage.

Re: Driver Fined for Middle Lane Hogging
Stop arguing girls, It just comes down to common sense. If the gap is already really tight and someone tries pulling int that, then that's idiotic. If you judge it to be reasonable, taking into account the approaching car's speed and indicating in good time, I don't see the problem.

But then not many drivers in this country seem to have any common sense, sadly.
